Notes | The Oregon Coast ESU was given a "Sensitive" status. The Coast showed good resistance to stress and long-term survival, but many streams had more than 50% hatchery spawners. Alsea River hatchery steelhead originally came from the Alsea, but were cultured too long without infusions of wild fish to be considered a local stock. Most hatchery steelhead spawning in the Alsea came from other rivers, especially the Siuslaw. Percentage of hatchery steelhead spawning in the Alsea estimated at 20%. Predicts the percentage of hatchery spawners on the Drift Creek run will decline to 10%. Criticizes the methodology of the Busby, et al. (1996) study. Charts. |
