NotesThis work describes a study of the feeding habits of steelhead trout smolts conducted from April 19 to June 1, 1957 in the Alsea River Basin. Wild steelhead feeding habits were contrasted with hatchery steelhead. Interestingly, smolts on the North Fork of the Alsea consumed twice as much food as smolts on the South Fork, and three times as much as steelhead in Fall Creek. Hatchery smolts on the Lower Alsea ate much less food than wild smolts in that area. Concludes that smolts on different tributaries feed on similar organisms with different degrees of intensity. Major professor was Carl E. Bond.
