NotesDetails comprehensive life history study initiated in 1954 by the Oregon Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit. Used adult steelhead scale samples from fishermen and a trap from 1951-1955 and trapped juvenile steelhead in 1956 on the river and four tributaries. Analyzed 978 scale samples from adult fish. Found that over 90% stayed in freshwater for at least 2 winters. There were from 3-17% repeat spawners. Adult fish from hatcheries probably constituted less than 10% of the mainstem Alsea steelhead run from 1951-1955.
