NotesAnother attempt to improve the bar at Alsea Bay met with failure. Estimated costs were $640,000. "Local interests" could only afford to pay about 15% of the total cost of the project. The report has a nice description of the Bay and River, and an extensive report on commerce in the area, including a list of vessels calling at Alsea Bay in 1913/1914. "It is estimated that the total growth of merchantable timber tributary to the bay amounts to about 1,500,000,000 feet b.m. [board measure]" Available in Google Books, and begins on page 462 of the scanned volume.
